What Is the 13th Salary in Cyprus?
The 13th salary is an additional month's salary paid in December as a Christmas bonus. It is not mandated by law for all sectors but is standard practice across most of the Cypriot private sector, established by collective agreements.
For employees who completed the full calendar year, the entitlement equals exactly one month's gross salary. For employees who joined mid-year, the entitlement is proportional β calculated as the number of days worked divided by 365, multiplied by the monthly salary.
Public holidays and annual leave do not reduce the 13th salary entitlement. Only unpaid leave may reduce it proportionally.
The Calculation Formula
Days Worked = days from employment start date (or January 1st if employed before the reference year) to December 31st, minus any unpaid leave days.
Days Worked in H1 = days worked from January 1st to June 30th (181 days maximum), with unpaid leave distributed proportionally.
